Wine
Balnaves of Coonawarra The Tally is sourced from the estate Dead Morris Vineyard's terra rossa soils at the southern end of Coonawarra. The Tally takes its name from the shearing shed.
Founder Doug Balnaves was a sheep shearer. In Australia shearers are paid by the number of sheep they shear – the higher the tally, the better the achievement. This wine is considered the winery's best achievement.
The Tally is made with the best Cabernet grapes of vintage. The fruit is given a long maceration on skins. Maturation occurs over 18 months in predominantly new, fine grained French oak. It is lightly fined before bottling.
Deep rich red, Balnaves of Coonawarra The Tally is medium bodied, elegantly structured and finishes long with fine, grainy tannins.
A classic Coonawarra Cabernet. Cellaring potential is 15 years.
